Adoption Process

Dakota Dollz Adoption Process

Ready to adopt a Ragdoll and your forever-friend/fur baby?

 Step 1 - Submit a Kitten Application

At Dakota Dollz Ragdolls, a New Kitten Application must be submitted to be considered for adoption. Filling out a New Kitten Application will put you on a waitlist once approved. Please visit our Facebook page for up-to-date information regarding the status of kittens. Waitlist is based on first-come, first-serve AND specific kitten requests (i.e. color, male/female, etc.). Requests to adopt kittens for breeding purposes will be on a case-by-case basis. An additional deposit will be required for breeding kittens.

Step 2 - Reserve your Perfect Kitten

Newborn kittens are generally born either pure white or mink colored, with no distinguishing markings or what colors they may become. Therefore, reservations are held until their markings/gender are more distinguishing, approximately 6 - 8 weeks old. Updated pictures will always be posted on our Facebook page.

*On occasion, when our “queens” or “sires” are to be retired from breeding, they may be available for adoption once they have been spayed/neutered. Adoption fee to be determined at that time.

A $250 deposit is required once you have selected your kitten. However, you can choose to make a deposit (or partial deposit) before that time. This deposit will be deducted from the final adoption fee. Final payment will be due at or before time of pickup/delivery of kitten. Cash is preferred for final payment. However, acceptable forms of payment are PayPal, Venmo, CashApp and Zelle. We do not accept personal checks.

Step 3 - Sign the Adoption Agreement

Once your kitten is reserved and selected, the Adoption Agreement will be signed up on delivery.  This agreement includes my 3-year health guarantee against genetic and congenital diseases, a 1-year FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) guarantee as well as other conditions of adoption.

*Please read our conditions of adoption at the bottom of this page before you are adopting a kitten.

Step 4 - Prepare for New Kitten's Arrival

Your kitten will be ready to come home to you when they are about 12 weeks old and have been cleared by our veterinarian. They will have received their first 2 (of 3) FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calici Virus, Panleukopenia) shots by that time. They will not be spayed/neutered as veterinarians do not recommend until 4-6 months of age. Once kittens are altered, documentation of altering to be provided to us and we can register your Ragdoll with TICA (The International Cat Association) on your behalf.

WE DO NOT SHIP KITTENS. You can pick up at our location (eastern North Dakota). Personal delivery may be available, dependent upon location. We can meet part way at an agreed upon meet-up location or potentially deliver to you for an additional fee. Please inquire for more specific information.

*If delivery is requested, please let us know 2 or more weeks in advance so we can make arrangements for delivery.

Start getting all your kitten supplies ready for when your kitten comes home.

Supplies you will need:

  • food
  • litter box
  • toys
  • cat tree
  • etc.

What we do:

  • We feed the kittens Purina One or Purina Pro Plan Kitten Chow dry food and Purina Pro Plan Kitten Formula wet food.
  • We use fountain for their water.  https://a.co/d/4q4fTy6
  • We do not recommend plastic water dishes.
  • We use Dr. Elsie’s Clay Clumping litter in their litterboxes. It is recommended that there be one extra litterbox per cat/kitten. We have Litter Robots and the kittens have learned to use those and regular litterboxes.

A good cat tree that has a built-in sisal scratching post is recommended. It is recommended that there are multiple scratching posts available throughout your home. They could be sprayed with catnip to attract the kittens to the posts to (hopefully) deter them from scratching on furniture, carpets, etc.

Kittens love having plenty of toys available to them. We have plenty of ‘spring’ toys, kicker toys, catnip ‘mice’, etc. and they LOVE them. They have also been known to ‘steal’ our hair ties, earrings and any other small objects they can get away with taking. We have also had some that will play ‘fetch’. Then of course, there’s no harm in having empty boxes lying around because what kitten doesn’t love an empty box?

Book an appointment with a veterinarian.

Your kitten should be seen by a veterinarian within 5 business days of adoption/pick-up/delivery for a checkup. They will need their rabies shot and 3rd FVRCP at around 16 weeks old. Your kitten will not receive these shots before they go to their new home as they are too young.

Finally, make sure you are sure about what you want to name your kitten. Once registered with TICA, the name will not be able to be changed within the registry.

This policy is very important. DO NOT resell or give away your Ragdoll to ANY of these facilities. When you adopt a Ragdoll, you are adopting a forever friend.
